Bevier, Jesse (b. 11 MAY 1729, d. 1803)

Note: Jesse Bevier was the eighth and youngest child of Jean Bevier and the only one to carry on the family name. He settled at Fantinekill at Wawarsing and married Elizabeth Hoffman. He and his sons took part in the defense of Fantinekill and his house was finally saved from destruction through the valiant efforts of his brother Louis. He signed the papers which settled the estate of his uncle, Andre' Bevier, in 1768, as the heir of his father Jean Bevier. Jesse was one of the signers of the Articles of Association in 1775. He is reported to have built the old mill house at Napanoch and the mill itself about 1750. His will, dated January 22, 1794, the same day as that of his brother Louis J., who was one of the executors, was never admitted to probate. His death occurred in 1803.

Bevier, Benjamin (b. 29 MAR 1727, d. 2 FEB 1801)
Note: Benjamin secured a license September 27th and married Elizabeth VanKeuren October 29, 1760. She was one of 14 children of Tjerck Matthysen VanKeuren and Maria TenEyck. Benjamin was a miller by trade and it is said that in 1754 he built the old grist mill at Napanoch. This was then purchased by the Southwick firm in 1831, and the oldest part of the building was then taken down. He was kirkmaster of the Wawarsing Church in 1766. In 1775, he signed the Articles of Association and enrolled the same year as a private in the Third Regiment of Ulster County. He received Land Bounty Rights as a reward for his services. He was Commissioner of Highways in the Town of Rochester in 1780. His will was drawn November 7, 1793 and probated August 16, 1803. Captain Andries Bevier was a witness to that instrument. Both Benjamin and his wife are buried in the Wawarsing Cemetery.

Bevier, Abraham (b. 14 JUN 1713, d. 1771)
Note: Abraham Bevier, son of Samuel Bevier of New Paltz, became one of the most important men in that little community. In 1738, he joined the New Paltz Militia under Captain Zachariah Hoffman. Four years later he married Margaret Elting, daughter of Roelof Elting and Sarah DuBois of New Paltz. They lived at Butterville near New Paltz. He was a man who owned a considerable amount of property. The official list of 1755 reports him as having two slaves, and in 1765 he was taxed on an estate of over L50. He joined the New Paltz Church on December 8, 1751, his wife having joined the previous April 19th. He was made a deacon of the church, resigned from that office in 1759 and in 1764 he was chosen elder. He held that office almost continuously until his death in 1771.
He filled several town offices. In 1751-52, he was the Assessor, Overseer of Highways in 1759, and was an Associate Judge of New Paltz. Abraham Bevier died early in the year 1771, for on May 26th of that year a new elder was chosen in the New Paltz church "in place of Abraham Bevier deceased." His will was drawn on May 13, 1763, and was probated on June 7, 1771. He apparently left a considerable amount of property to his wife, Margaret, for she became known as a wealthy woman in the little community. She represented her husband in 1774 in endorsing the government of the Duzine, and she gave liberally to the building of the new stone church at New Paltz. Her will was made in 1805 and probated in Kingston, December 17, 1806, so she seems to have lived to a hearty old age.

Bevier, Isaac (b. 25 DEC 1714, d. BEF 1779)
Note: Isaac Bevier, son of Samuel, was baptized December 25, 1714, but the good fortune supposed to attend a Christmas child was not his to enjoy. Isaac was a signer of the Articles of Association. He joined the New Paltz Militia under Captain Zachariah Hoffman in 1738, but removed from that town to Wawarsing where he married. After the death of his first (unknown) wife, he married in 1750, his cousin Elizabeth, daughter of Jean Bevier. Isaac signed the Articles of Association in 1775, but he must have died soon thereafter, for at the time of the Fantinekill Massacre in 1779, when his wife and two sons perished, the account describes his wife as the "Widow of Isaac Bevier." In the diary of Cornelius Bevier we find mention made of "Black Bob," a slave of the widow of Isaac. Abraham Garrett Bevier, in his account of the massacre, also speaks of "Bob" as a well-known individual. The family story terminates with the tragic events of May 4, 1779.

Children of Issac Bevier and Elizabeth Bevier are listed under Elizabeth Bevier # 12

Bevier, Jacobus (b. 29 APR 1716, d. BEF 19 APR 1774)
Note: Like his father before him, Jacobus Bevier lived all his days at New Paltz. He joined the militia in 1738, and married in 1740, Antje Freer. In 1752, when he was 36 years of age, he and his wife joined the church by confession of faith. In 1759, he was made a deacon and signed the call to Rev. J. M. Goetschius. He was elected an elder in 1764 and again in 1768 and gave a considerable amount of money and labor to the new church fund. Jacobus was constable in 1749 and was reported to own one slave in 1755. His property was taxed on an evaluation of L10 in 1765. His will was drawn February 18, 1774, and probated April 19th of that year.
