Note: Louis was born in Niagara Falls, NY and graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology. He joined the U.S. Army and landed in Marseilles, France in October 1944. He served in an infantry unit sent to the front near Baccarat in the Lorraine Province. He was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Lou was president of the 100th Infantry Division Association and twice visited France with his compatriots near Bitche on anniversaries of its liberation by the Allies. He moved to Baltimore in 1950 to work for his Uncle Alan U. Bevier, who owned a company that sold equipment for petroleum-carrying trucks. He retired in 1991. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Howard Lodge and the Boumi Temple Shrine.
Louis Witt is the nephew of the Bevier-Elting Family Association's first President, Allan U. Bevier. He has been a loyal and active member for many years and has served as V-P and President of the Bevier-Elting Family Association. He is responsible for establishing the B-E Homestead Preservation Fund. Louis Witt retired from office in the Bevier-Elting Family Association in October of 1997 and received the family's Outstanding Service Award from a grateful membership. Shortly afterwards he was appointed Trustee of the B-B-EFA and served in that capacity until his death in 2007.
