The funeral of Mrs. Nellie Bevier from the Oakland, PA M. E. Church Sunday - taken from the Weekly Transcript, printed at Susquehanna, PA Saturday June 11, 1887 Vol, V, Number 7.
The little Methodist Church in Oakland was crowded beyond all seating or standing capacity Sunday afternoon by friends who attended the funeral of Mrs. Charles Bevier, nee Nellie E. Fox, daughter of Mr. N. W. Fox, an old resident of this vicinity. Mrs. Bevier died at her home in South Windsor on Saturday at about three o'clock, after a lingering illness of several weeks.
She leaves an infant child but six weeks of age. The circumstances of her death were peculiarly sad; but a year ago she was a bride, and thus, early in life, in her twenty-fifth year, she is taken away from a young husband and a helpless babe.
Twentyfive carriages accompanied the remains from South Windsor to Oakland where the funeral services were held in the M. E. Church. Revs. Leach, Surdam, and Councilman took part in the services and Rev. A. C. Sperry preached a beautiful sermon.
The choir rendered choice music and at the close of the services the remains were bourne to McKune Cemetery and interred. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers. S.R. Chaffee, E. Peet, George Pooler, Bert Beebe, Lewis Beebe, Walter Wightman. O. T. Smith was the funeral director. The floral offerings were numerous.
