Note: Esther Bevier attended Litchfield Female Academy, Litchfield, Connecticut during the period around 1800. Her sisters, Rachel, Hylah, Sarah, Henrietta, Anna Maria, and Elizabeth also attended. While at school, the young ladies were taught management of a household, needlework, etc. They had to be accomplished in embroidery, etc. This is the source of some of the fine collections in Deyo Hall and Locust Lawn in New Paltz.
During the period of about 1815, the Border Limner (Ammi Philips), a painter from Connecticut, came to the area of Ulster County where he painted the portraits of a number of people. The portraits of of Esther Bevier and her husband, Philip Hasbrouck, were given to the Huguenot Historical Society by Mrs. George Howell of Piscataway, New Jersey. Mrs. Howell is the daughter of the former Esther Bevier Borcherding of Gardiner. Esther Bevier and her husband built and resided in what has become known as the "White House Farm,' located to the west of Forest Glen on the Wall kill, across from Guilford. It was a part of the Guilford Patent of 1709.
