Note: His name may have been spelled Lewis. The couple lived in Rochester, later called Accord, New York. Louis was the only son of Philip and was only eight years of age when his father died. Louis received a BA from the College of New Jersey in 1812. At the completion of that education, Louis studied medicine and was a noted physician at Rochester, Ulster County for many years. He married only after his mother's death. He was very active in school affairs and served as School Commissioner and School Inspector. He also served as Town Clerk and Supervisor of the Town of Rochester and in 1850, he was chosen to be a Director of the Ulster County Bank in Kingston. About 1820, a Post Office was established at Rochester and Louis was the postmaster. A local newspaper account says: "In 1826, the post-office department ordered the name Rochester changed as there could not be two offices of the same name in the state. A meeting of the town elders was called and after much debate and discussion they failed to agree on a new name. Dr. Bevier, the postmaster, sent to Washington a suggestion that the name be changed to "Discord." The authorities replied in an equally humorous, but more hopeful vein, bestowing the name of Accord upon the post office, which has been since known by that name."
During the 07/27/1850 census, he lived with his wife Charity and sister, Elizabeth in Rochester Twp. Ulster County, NY.
