Note: Dr. Garrett Newkirk, grandson of Garrett Newkirk and Maria Bevier, wrote a history of the Bevier family in a notebook in 1869. This notebook was found by Mattie Newkirk Lile in an old trunk in 1972. It was copied by the hand of Martha Champion Lewis in 1972. It was submitted to the family genealogist, Dale A. BeVier, in April of 1997 by Mrs. Lewis and the notes have been attached by him to the proper persons in the genealogy. When a portion of this work appears in the genealogy, it will be prefaced by [Garrett Newkirk's notebook].
