The towns of Niles and Owasco have been formed in the immediate vicinity of the place where he settled.

He signed the Articles of Association in 1776 and served in the Revolutionary War commencing his service about July 1, 1776 in the State Militia Company of Capt. Jacob Hasbrouck. This Company was in Colonel Paulding's Regiment. He fought from entrenchments at the battle of White Plains where he first saw General George Washington. In August of 1777, he went to Saratoga with the regiment and took his sick brother's place in the artillery under Major Stephens. He participated in the engagement at Stillwater which resulted in the British Army retreating to Saratoga where General Burgoyne surrendered to General Horatio Gates. Conrad was given command of the captured baggage and other war material the he took to Albany. He volunteered twice more seeing action on the frontier against the Indians. He was discharged at Wawarsing about November 1781 after participating in several skirmishes. Conrad was placed on the pension rolls 27 Jul 1833.
He was noted not only for his personal courage, but also for his fleetness of foot. At the time of the Fantinekill Massacre, he went to the rescue of Jesse Bevier's family. In the diary of Cornelius Bevier where, in the manner of the day his name is abbreviated to Coon, he is quoted as boasting that he could outrun any living Indian. He was 21 years of age at that time. He later became a member of the State
Legislature and held that position for many years. He married Elizabeth Roosa, resided at Leurenkill, and in 1788 was elected a deacon in the church. In 1795, he was school trustee at Wawarsing.

Note: Cornelius Bevier was sometimes called Cornelius Bevier, Jr. He married first, Sarah Bevier, who was five years his senior. His second marriage was with Cornelia Vernooy and they resided in Wawarsing. He was a private in the Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1780, enrolled first in the 3rd Regiment and later in the 4th. In 1780 he was constable of the town. The record states that on 21 Feb 1781, he contributed 11 bushels of buckwheat and 7 bushels of corn as an offering for the Continental cause. He died at 30 years of age and his estate was administered by his brother Conrad in 1798. It is mentioned in the town records that Simon, the other brother, paid on behalf of Conrad for the schooling of Cornelius' young son Johannes. Cornelius may possibly have been born in 1762. He was described as a yeoman.

Note: He came to Cayuga County in 1795 from Wawarsing in Ulster County. He settled in Owasco, the journey being made with teams of oxen. He bought a tract of timber land of about one hundred acres and on this he built a log house and a grist mill, the first mill erected in those parts. He ran the mill until another mill was erected in Hardenburg Corners, now Auburn, NY. He spent his last years on the farm, dying in 1845 at the age of 77. He had ten children, three sons and seven daughters.
There is some question that he may have moved to the area of Oil Creek, Pennsylvania for a time after 1806.
