Note: He was called Arthur in the census of 1870. He was a carpenter by trade and for a considerable time was employed at Camp Augusta. He lived his whole lifetime in the vicinity of Augusta, Michigan. In 1900, they resided in Kalamazoo, Michigan and he was a bartender. Charles and Eva Merritt were divorced in Colorado in Jan 1907. He was a man of good habits and pleasing disposition according to his obit. In 1910, they resided in Augusta Village, Michigan, he was a farmer. Charles' step-daughter Eleanora Giddings lived with them. Charles and Emma were both killed in a train wreck in Porter, Indiana February 27, 1921.

Note: She was first married to William R. Giddings April 29, 1878. Mr. Giddings died in 1905 and she married Charles Bevier two years later. She had one son with Mr. Giddings, Dr. A. M. Giddings of Crosby, Wyoming, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Louise Dieren of Represa, California.

He was a farmer at the time of his first marriage. In 1910 he lived alone in Ward #2 in Kalamazoo, Michigan and he was a mechanical engineer. In 1920 and1930, he lived in Ward #3, Grand Rapids, Michigan and was a mechanical engineer.
