Rose in rank to Sgt. 1st Class and served in Dijon, France in Medical Laboratory. Served also in Belgium. Discharged from Army 3 July 1919. Lived in Detroit in 1920. In 1930, he resided in Detroit and ran a dental office.

His family notes that he was a cook and then a foreman with the Chesapeake and Ohio RR. Michigan death index indicates he died 19 Jan 1982. Theodore and Mildred are buried in Blythefield Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Michigan. The annual family reunions of the Benton/BeVier clan are an outgrowth of Newt's backyard family parties.

Note: She was born on the family farm one mile north of Hawkins, Michigan and educated in a country school for a time. She was a bookkeeper for Crystal Flash Oil Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her husband, Kip, was a chemist with Rinshead-Mason Paint Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After her marriage to Cliff they resided in Reed City, then moved to Grand Rapids. During WW 2 they lived in Herman Gardens, Michigan.

Note: George and Gertude were both veterans of WW 2. He was Technician 4th grade in Crile General Hospital, Parma, Ohio in November 1944. He graduated from Wayne State University Mortuary School in Detroit. His occupation for 27 years was funeral director. Gertrude was an RN and was in the Nursing Corps of the US Army. She was later employed at the Ferguson-Droste Ferguson Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
